One look at the Aptera, and you’d swear that it could fly. Coming off as a cross between a single engine Cessna and something George Jetson could be seen flying around in, this spectacular new breed of plug-in electronic hybrid vehicle sets our design obsessed, eco-friendly hearts aflutter. While this sweet ride may not be able to take to the friendly skies, it will save you a boatload of valuable gas money, getting over 230 miles per gallon. Not only does this awesome automobile set entirely new standards for environmental safety, but it does the same for passenger safety, employing a safety cage similar to that of a formula one racecar. It also contains an “eyes forward” vision system that gives the driver 180 degrees of rear sight. It may not be exactly ready to hit the road just yet, but for those living in California, you can reserve yours today. So if you inhabit the Golden State, want to be ahead of the environmental curve, and at the same time convince your neighbor that he or she overslept by about a hundred years, perhaps you should invest in an Aptera.

via adverblog: In the US, JetBlue has launch an amusing nonsense website to explain which is the difference between flying and jetting. Their idea is to bring humanity back to air travel and they do it in a nice way, with the help of JWT New York.
There are several weird, and sometimes silly, things to do on the site, that all together create an experience both funny and witty. The design is simple and functional, and all different content pieces in the end work together quite consistently.

I’m writing about Red Bull energy drink not because I like the drink (can’t stand the taste) but because Red Bull is one of the most innovative and creative companies ever. The company itself has been around for about 20 years, holds 80% US market share for energy drinks, yet it only has 2 products, with it’s newest one just out to market. Red Bull is one of those few brands that has successfully poised itself as being extremely cool and youthful. How do they do this? By sponsoring everything from extreme sports like snowboarding, cliff-diving, surfing, formula 1 race cars, and break dancing to art shows, music, and video games. It also hosts events like the “Red Bull Flugtag” (German for “flight day” or “flying day”) and other such contests, designed to amuse participants and observers. Basically, they never cease to come up with ways to be present in youth culture. When there is a cool event, red bull is there.

Pentagram Architects partner James Biber has designed this home theater in Montauk New York, taking inspiration from Radio City Music Hall and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The theater has a series of round arches, which house 600 five-watt dimmer-controlled light bulbs that provide a soft ambient light for when you need to find that elusive remote control. And as in the Music Hall, the lights are positioned to glow away from the viewers – because we all hate to have lights in our eyes when watching the big screen.

I’m sure everyone in the design community has already heard of the magnificent artist collective products from LA based Poketo but for all of you that haven’t, prepare to be amazed. Poketo commissions artists to design different products from their famous wallets to plates! These make great gifts

I’ve fallen in love with this trend of “artist” hotels ever since I stayed at the hotel fox in copenhagen this summer. Now i’ve discovered that there are TWO great artist hotels located less than hour from me in San Francisco. The First one is Hotel Tomo, a best western owned boutique hotel inspired by Japanese Pop Culture and anime. The hotel is all about video games, and features a “player suite” equipped with a fatboy lounge, Wii, PS3, and a giant TV to play it on.
Another Hotel to check out is the Hotel Des Arts which is an amazing boutique hotel with every wall covered with custom works by local artists. You must go see the “room” gallery on their website to see all these fantastic rooms!
